Mount Zion Baptist Church has proudly been uplifting God and serving the Port Chester & Rye communities for over 80 years.  We continue to give God all the honor and praise!

In November 1933, Mount Zion Baptist Church was organized by Reverend F. H. Hamblin at 52 Palmer Avenue in Port Chester, NY.  The Church moved to Westchester Avenue in 1934 to accommodate the growing congregation and received edification by several Pastors.  Reverend John H. Nichols moved the church from Westchester Ave to its current location of 23 Slater Street, Port Chester NY 10573 in 1944.

In June 1958, Reverend Phinizy Bush became the Pastor and remained the Pastor for over 48 years, until he retired in May 2002.  Under his leadership, Mount Zion expanded, thrived and enriched the community; as well as grew financially and spiritually.  During his tenure as Pastor, four preachers were licensed and over twenty deacons ordained.  Some milestones that occurred under Pastor Bush include: a) The purchase of the parsonage in 1970; b) The renovation and expansion of the church building in 1977 and again in 1988-89; and c) A ceremony held to name a corner area of the church property Reverend Phinizy Bush Square.

After Rev. Bush retired, Mount Zion was without a Pastor for two years.  However, with the grace of God and the prayers of the dedicated congregants, the Church stayed together during those years without a shepherd.  God answered our prayers in August 2004, when Reverend Jared H. Feggans, Sr. was elected pastor.

Since 2004, Pastor Feggans has been touched by God to institute changes to the services and ministries.  The Church is being edified spiritually according to the word of God.  As a result, our congregation and ministries, such as the Deacon Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, and Missionary Ministry, continue to grow.  Under the leadership of Pastor Feggans, new ministries have developed, such as the CD Ministry, Doorkeepers Ministry and Praise Team Ministry.

For 2009, Pastor Feggans focused on the development of our Youth.  He encouraged the expansion of the Youth Choir.  He established a Youth Council consisting of adults who work with the youth and two Youth Representatives (appointed by Pastor Feggans).  One of the Youth Council’s main objectives is to help deal with issues involving the youth.  Also in 2009, Mount Zion licensed its first female minister on November 13, 2009.

Mount Zion continues to move forward with outreaching to communities beyond Port Chester/ Rye and uplifting God!
